Soldier’s Heart voc. words / Week #1 /2nd 9 weeks
Use each of the vocabulary words in a fabulous fifth grade sentence (due Thurs.).
1. appalling – to make someone feel shock, horror, or disgust
2. incomprehensible – impossible or very difficult to understand
3. unscathed – not hurt, damaged, or harmed in any way
4. horrific – frightening or disturbing enough to cause horror
5. bayonet – a steel blade attached to the muzzle end of a gun, used in hand-to-hand combat
6. civilian – a person not on active military duty; a person not part of the military
7. dysentery – a disease characterized by severe diarrhea and passing blood, caused by infection
8. sutler – a civilian who provides items to an army and has a shop in the camp
9. hullabaloo – noisy excitement or fuss
10. amputation – the process of cutting off or removing a limb from the body
