CPA

CPA TIMELINE

Through the 4-H program, students will be giving speeches about a topic of choice. Their job is to become the expert on the topic. They will be writing a report and then giving a speech to teach the class what they’ve learned.

Students will receive grades in English for their written work and in science or social studies for their topic depending on which subject their topic fits.

1/9 Topic due! Begin research and learn all that you can about your topic. Find some interesting facts that very few people already know. Taking notes about what you learn will be very helpful. Remember to take notes in your OWN words. Do not copy directly from books and/or the internet. Organize your information as you go. What would you include in the beginning of your report/speech? In the middle? At the end?

2/6 Your written introduction & conclusion are due. (The body of your speech is not due at this time.) Please use your best handwriting. Skip several lines between these two paragraphs.
INTRODUCTION:
1. Hook your audience!
*Ask a question, state an interesting or amazing fact, or share an anecdote (short story).
2. Introduce yourself and your topic.
3. Share your (3) main ideas or most important things.
*Tell us where you’re going with your report/speech.
*You may have 2 to 4 main ideas.

CONCLUSION:
1. Use a wrap-up word or phrase (Finally, In conclusion, To summarize, Remember…).
2. Restate your main ideas (from your introduction) in a slightly different way.
3. Tie back into your hook.
4. Thank your audience.

2/20 CPA report due. Begin working on your poster(s). When you receive your report back, make note cards to help you give your speech. (You will not be reading your report nor your notes to the class.)

3/6 In-class presentations (Be sure to bring your posters!)

3/17-19 (date to be announced) CPA presentations for 4-H judges
